Teachers nowadays

Cultural and professional competencies to teach

Being a teacher in today's "knowledge society" means to be an educational professional, possessing the skills necessary to carry out a function aimed at providing quality education to increasingly heterogeneous groups of students in an ever-changing economic, social and cultural context. The task of the school, writes Mauro Ceruti in the introduction, is "to support children and adolescents, in all the various phases of their development, in their ability to give meaning to the variety of their experiences, both scholastic and extracurricular", creating the conditions for learning that continues throughout life. The authors of the book, experts in school issues, address the topics indicated in the "General Warnings" of the notice of competition for teachers, with the aim of offering candidates the knowledge necessary to support the written, practical and oral tests.

These, in particular, are the topics covered:

  • the education and training system and school autonomy;
  • the European dimension of education, Lifelong learning and new media;
  • school organization as a learning environment (collegiality, Pof, classroom management, special educational needs, internal and external evaluation);
  • school regulations (responsibilities of the State and local authorities, legal status of teachers, etc.).

An indispensable tool to face the written and oral tests following the pre-selection.
