The manufacturing industry located in the Objective 2 area of Friuli-Venezia Giulia (identified within the provinces of Trieste, Gorizia and Udine) has been affected, in recent years, by worrying phenomena of industrial decline, which have made it particularly exposed to risks arising from the profound change in the competitive environment. This volume illustrates the results of an empirical survey, conducted on a sample of over 80 companies belonging to the mechanical and electrotechnical-electronic sectors; the technological, organizational and managerial profile of the companies is examined, the strengths and weaknesses are identified, and the potential and development processes of innovation are evaluated. The research offers useful indications to entrepreneurs, industrial development bodies, scholars and researchers in economics and management. The work was carried out on the initiative of AREA Science Park of Trieste as part of the innovation dissemination interventions co-financed by the EU for the Objective 2 territory.
