Artisan businesses and innovation

An intersectoral survey in Friuli-Venezia Giulia

The small and artisan company constitutes the supporting structure of the industrial system of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. Today this territory has found a central position within an area affected by economic integration processes: new perspectives are opening up for those companies, even smaller ones, which will be able to face the challenges and respond promptly to the stimuli that the new market offers. This volume illustrates the results of an empirical investigation, conducted on a sample of 165 small and artisan businesses belonging to the mechanical, electrical-electronic and wood-mobile sectors. The most significant relationships between the main intervention decisions (of a technological, organizational and managerial nature) and company performance are sought. In addition, homogeneous groups of companies are identified in terms of performance, intervention decisions and structural characteristics. The research offers useful information to entrepreneurs, industrial development bodies, economics and management researchers and researchers.

Dedicated to artisans: actors of innovation without research.
